The Zodiacal Sign of Capricorn commences on December 22st, but for seven days, being overlapped by the influence of the previous sign, so it can not take its full power until on or about December 28th. From this out it is in full strength until January 20th, and is then for seven days gradually losing its strength on account of becoming overlapped by the "cusp" of the incoming sign Aquarius.
Capricorn’s are also philosophical signs and are highly intelligent too. They apply their knowledge to practical matters, and strive to maintain stability and order. They are good organizers, and they achieve their goals by purposeful, systematic means. They are very intuitive, although they don’t share this trait with others freely. They do not deal well with opposition or criticism but a healthy Capricorn will often shrug off negative comments towards their character. They are patient and persevering - they know they can accomplish any task as long as they follow a their plan step-by-step. Capricorn’s have broad shoulders, and typically take on other’s problems with aplomb. Ironically, they rarely share their own problems and tend to go through bouts of inner gloom after a spell of dwelling on these problems.

In astrology, your Capricorn Zodiac sign (also called sun sign or star sign) is decided by the position of the sun at the moment of your birth, as seen from Earth. The sun takes a year to travel through the twelve Zodiac signs, but it’s not exactly a year of 365 days. The time it takes is closer to 365.25 days. That’s why we have leap years.
Every fourth year we add a day to the calendar, the 29th of February, making that year 366 days. Actually, there’s an additional rule, to make it more precise with the actual movement of earth and the sun: the starting year of a new century is not a leap year, unless it’s evenly divisible by 400. So, 1900 was not a leap year, but 2000 was.
The leap years make the dates of each Zodiac sign change slightly. Normally, Capricorn starts on December 22, right after the winter solstice, and ends on January 20, but that’s just the mean. In reality it changes slightly in a four year period from one leap year to the next.
If you were born on the 22nd of December or the 20th of January, you have to check if you’re really a Capricorn or not. It never differs more than a day in each direction. The start of Capricorn is on the 21st or 22nd of December, and the end of it almost always on the 20th of January. People born on other dates need not be concerned.
